Getting candidates for local office on the record about transportation

City Council members, mayors and county supervisors make key decisions about making our streets safer for walking and bicycling, and serve on the boards of transit agencies and regional bodies like MTC. Despite this, transportation is often not a central issue during election campaigns.  Seamless Bay Area and partner advocacy groups have developed a candidate questionnaire focused on transportation issues - so we can hear where candidates stand and let them know that voters care.

So far, 175 Bay Area candidates in 47 jurisdictions have received the questionnaire, and 54 have filled out the questionnaire.  Candidates from over two dozen City Council races have filled out the questionnaire, including cities as diverse as Antioch, Atherton, Dublin, Gilroy, Haward, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City, Richmond, San Francisco, San Ramon and Union City  The deadline for responses is September 9th.

Responses will be published on the websites, and shared with over 10,000 voters who care about transit and active transportation.  Any group is welcome to circulate the questionnaire to additional candidates so long as they submit responses by September 9th at 11:59pm.  Questions can be submitted to info@transbaycoalition.org.

This project is co-sponsored by Seamless Bay Area, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, BikeEastBay, Transport Oakland, Peninsula for Everyone, South Bay Yimby, East Bay Yimby, Fremont for Everyone, Transbay Coalition and SPUR.
