Overview & Registration

Emerging mobility - including micromobility, shared on-demand vehicles, and autonomous driving technologies - are rapidly evolving and have the potential to transform sustainable mobility in California, Sweden, and globally.

How should these new forms of mobility be governed, managed, and planned in order to support public goals like reducing greenhouse gas emissions, shifting people toward sustainable travel modes, and enhancing public transit?

The Sweden California CoLab is a unique convening of Swedish and California senior policymakers and transportation professionals from September 11-13, 2023 to explore this important question, sponsored by Swedish government agencies Vinnova and Trafikverket, and Caltrans in California. The draft program, available here, is being finalized over the coming weeks, but consists of three days:

  1. Day 1, Sept 11 (San Francisco) - Key Topics: Climate Resilience, Shared Micromobility Policy
Public Event, Sept 11, 5:30-7:00: What can California learn from Sweden's world class public transit? RSVP Link

  2. Day 2, Sept 12 (San Francisco/East Bay) - Key Topics: Shared On Demand Transit, Automonous Vehicles

  3. Day 3, Sept 13 (Sacramento) - Key Topics: Transportation governance, integration, statewide policy, decarbonization

Public sector transportation professionals from California, representing cities, transit agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, and other relevant agencies, are invited to participate in any of days or individual sessions within the program.

The visit of Swedish officials to California is part of Radslaget, an initiative to reconsider the future of public transit in Sweden. Further information on the Sweden California CoLab available here.
