10/8/24: Rider voices needed at SamTrans/BART meetings and community workshops
Right now, our region is deciding the future of transit funding, service plans, and infrastructure expansions.
Take 2-minutes to speak up at this week’s SamTrans and BART board meetings in favor of a robust regional transit funding measure. Then, join us at a series of workshops (including one this Thursday) to review the Bay Area’s long-range Transit 2050+ Plan. Lastly, don’t forget to sign up for the Rider First Awards on October 18th. Read on to learn more.
Speak up for a robust regional measure at SamTrans and BART board meetings
Bay Area transit needs to be much better, but it’s at risk of becoming much worse due to funding shortfalls. Right now, our elected officials are making important decisions about the size and scope of a 2026 regional transportation ballot measure that could transform Bay Area transit.
This Wednesday and Thursday, SamTrans and BART will consider options for a 2026 regional transit funding measure. We need dozens of riders to show up and support a regional approach to fixing our transit crisis that improves service, increases seamless coordination across multiple agencies, and with funding and contributions from as many Bay Area counties as possible.
Sign up here and we will send you a text or email when it’s time to comment.
Community Workshops: Improving Public Transit in your community and the Bay Area
Join us for a series of workshops throughout October to help shape the direction of Bay Area transit for decades to come. The Bay Area’s transportation plan, known as Transit 2050+, is being drafted right now and needs review by community members. This plan is important as projects identified in the plan are eligible for federal, state, and regional funding. For the first time in history, the planning uses a perspective of improving service connections to make traveling around the region easier and is not just focused on capital projects.
These workshops are being hosted by us, and our partners across the region so that local needs are better reflected.
Upcoming Workshops
Date: Thursday, October 10th, 12-1pm

Volunteer for a Transit Rider Story Project
Do you have social media, graphics, and/or video skills and want to share the stories of transit riders? Then we need your help! Our community partners across the Bay Area are hosting workshop events to educate residents about MTC’s Transit 2050+ planning effort and get local feedback. At these events, we will be collecting stories from transit riders about their current needs and how a vastly improved transit system would impact their life. But we need folks with video skills to help record and edit clips, and social media folks to help spread these videos.
Save the date! October 18th, 6-8pm – Rider First Awards
Join us and San Francisco Transit Riders to close out Transit Month by celebrating some of the people who have gone above and beyond to improve transit in the past year. The Rider First Awards caps off a month of events, rallies, and our Ride Contest.
We'll honor bus operators, transit planners, and advocates alike who help us build a more equitable, growing and accessible public transit system and culture for all.
