Position Title: Transportation Policy & Advocacy Intern (Part-Time)

Employer: Seamless Bay Area

Hours/Duration: Up to 20 hours/week for 30 weeks, approximately March 6 - Sept 29, 2023, with possible extension for additional 12 weeks until December 22, 2023.

Compensation: $25/hour, no benefits

The Opportunity

Seamless Bay Area, a non-profit public transportation advocacy and research organization, is seeking a dynamic part-time intern to support its core policy development, education, and advocacy work activities. This intern will assist with various advocacy and policy initiatives related to promoting integrated transit fares, an improved transit customer experience, public transit governance reforms, and increased funding for transit.

This intern can work up to 20 hours per week for the duration of the internship, subject to discussion with the successful candidate based on availability and skills.

This position has funding identified for 30 weeks through approximately September 2023; there may be the opportunity to extend the duration of the position.

Anticipated Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and execution of virtual and in-person events, including a planned summit on emerging mobility governance and Transit Month 2023, and advocacy education events 

  • Research, draft and publish blog posts on Seamless Bay Area updates, transportation policy, and additional topics

  • Prepare agendas, presentations, meeting notes as needed

  • Attend one or more regular Seamless Bay Area committee meetings (1-2 hrs/week)

  • Contribute to Seamless Bay Area policy development activities

  • Attend and oversee technology needs (Zoom) for events

Qualifications

The following are required qualifications of candidates:

  • Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills

  • Authorization to work in the United States

  • Familiarity with the Bay Area’s public transportation policy and funding landscape

  • Undergraduate degree (in progress or completed)

  • Ability to take direction and multi-task

  • Fluency in use of Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms)

The following other attributes, while not required, are also of interest and may be considered in the evaluation of candidates

  • Relevant work experience in transportation, advocacy, policy analysis, or other fields

  • Graphic design and experience with compelling visuals for reports; experience with Adobe Illustrator & Indesign

  • Experience creating and/or maintaining websites, particularly using Squarespace

  • Interest in Seamless Bay Area’s advocacy and policy work to promote an integrated public transit system

Candidates may be current undergraduate or graduate students. Seamless Bay Area is open to discussing opportunities to connect this internship with ongoing academic studies.
