5/28/24: Flyering and Ride-Along this Saturday + getting ready for Transit Month 2024

We have two exciting events this week to support SB 1031 and in preparation for Transit Month 2024. Read on to learn more and sign up before it’s too late!

Saturday, June 1st – Transit Ride-Along and Flyering at Daly City BART

Transit in San Mateo County needs your help! SB 1031, the “Connect Bay Area Act,” sets the stage for a major increase in transit funding for San Mateo County and the rest of the Bay Area. We need your help engaging and educating voters so they can speak out in favor of funding transit! Importantly, we need to let transit board members and elected officials know that Bay Area residents want a well-connected, frequent, and fast transit network.

Event Details

At 10:30am we’ll be meeting in South San Francisco for a Samtrans/BART ride-along with San Mateo County leaders. This will be an important opportunity to share your transit stories with our leaders, explain why transit is important for you and your community, and why more funding is needed to improve the system.

Then at 11:30am we’ll be arriving at the Daly City BART to meet with transit riders, educate them about SB 1031, and get folks to sign a petition.

Afterwards, volunteers are invited to join a no-host happy hour at Gilman Brewery to debrief and celebrate a job well done!

May 29th, 1-2pm (virtual event) – Transit Month 2024 regional planning call

Is your organization interested in hosting an event during Transit Month 2024? Our 1st regional planning call for Transit Month 2024 is happening tomorrow from 1-2pm.

At this first meeting we’ll talk about the $6,000 in community grants we have available to help groups host events, an overview of Transit Month, and have time to collaborate/brainstorm ideas with groups from across the Bay Area. This is a great opportunity for organizations that have not participated in past Transit Month festivities to learn more! These meetings will occur monthly until Transit Month begins in September.

June 3th, 5-7pm (in-person event) – Book Talk: When Driving is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency (SPUR)

One third of people in the US do not have a driver's license. The majority of involuntary nondrivers are people with disabilities, low-income individuals, formerly incarcerated people, undocumented immigrants, kids, young people, and older adults.

Join the author Anna Letitia Zivarts as she explains the reality for non-drivers and how improving our transportation system with non-drivers in mind will create a better quality of life for everyone. This event is hosted by our friends at SPUR with Jeff Wood, host of The Overhead Wire podcasts, joining as a panelist. This free, in-person event will be at 654 Mission Street, San Francisco. Registration is required and doors will open 30 minutes prior to the program.

New on our blog:

Third Transit Transformation Task Force meeting focuses on defining metrics of success

Higher frequencies, faster trip times, expanding coverage, and easier transfers are needed to increase transit availability. These priorities were the focus of the Transit Transformation Task Force’s (TTTF) third meeting in San Diego on April 15th. The TTTF, a major effort to define reforms and funding needed to transform transit in California, is focused on developing benchmarks for service levels, funding recommendations, and governance reforms needed to grow statewide transit ridership.
